How it all began...
By the special Grace of God, in September 1998 during the ten years of brutal war in Sierra Leone, I was actively involved in evangelism.
So, one day my church’s evangelism team was embarking on a very special mass evangelist campaign of which I, was a very active part, we were ministering to some market women, when some children from nowhere just came up to me and started shouting PRAY FOR US, PRAY FOR US, so my leader told me to lay hands on all of them and pray for them.
Later she told me that the Lord was calling me into a children’s ministry.
I was so angry upon hearing that because I like ghetto evangelism and not children’s ministry so a few months later, I joined the Freetown Bible Training Center (FBTC).
In my second year of bible school, I got a confirmation of what God went me to do; hence Goshen Academy came into existence.
Mission statement
Children are a heritage from the Lord, (Ps 127:3-4) therefore we as teachers must do our best to help them become what God intends them to be. The child should be able to realize the love that God has for him or her. Jesus used children to demonstrate love in the miracle of feeding the five thousand (Matthew 5)
Aims
- We must make sure that every child that goes through this institution understands what the love of God is. (John 3:16)
- The child must be taught the importance of salvation. Salvation is for everyone and without it no one can go into heaven. (Romans 10:9-10)
- God’s love for little children, has shown us that there is a place for them in heaven. (Mark 10:13-15)
- We are to train children to be spiritually and academically enhanced. (Proverbs 22:6, Genesis 1:26)
- Children who are obedient will live long on the earth, so it is our duty to help them live an obedient life in all they do, obedient to parents, elders, and teachers. (Ephesians 6:1-3).
Objectives
- At the end of every school year, every child should have memorized a certain amount of scripture verses and must know how to pray, praise and worship o their own. (John 4:23-24)
- Every child should be able to identify, discuss and share a praise report at school and at home. (Psalms 150:6)
- Every child should be able to tell others about Jesus, pray for t he sick, and pray for other needs using the name of Jesus. (Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 16:18, Jeremiah 33:3, Ephesians 6:18, 1st Thessalonians 5:17, John 14:13-14)
- Every child must be sure of their security in God, that they are God’s property. (John 1:12-13)
- Every child should have concern, care love, and sympathy for one another just as Jesus commanded His disciples. (John 21:15-18)
